I think Elva becomes the new rider, and maybe she is the reason Eragon leaves Alaga?sia. I think Elva has a really important role in the forth book.

Well technically, since the last dragon's green, it may not be possible for Elva to be the rider. She could be one in the next generation, of course, but that's entirely up to whether the dragon species lasts until the end of the story. Although, Eragon saw that they would in Eragon, but the future changes all the time an no one future is definite, so...

Well. I don?t think that Elva will be the new rider because of her age.
technically she?s only 1 or 2 years old. Normally the riders are 10 or older.
There?s always the chance that she?ll be the rider because of Eragons magic.
There might not be a third rider! It?s obvious that Arya might be the next rider. CP also gave a hint in book 1 page 80-84 (i?m not sure which page exactly).
Eragon had a dream about a group of elf?s going on a boat. Two of them walked arm in arm (one woman and one man) and above them two Dragons flew. On the beach one man was back alone. He let out a long, aching cry.

I think the two elf?s might be Eragon and Arya. The man on the ground might be Murtagh. One of the dragons is Sofia (I think) and the other dragon might be Arya's or murtagh's dragon. I think the man on the beach is Murtagh. So Maybe Murtagh's dragon going to die?

So because of that dream Arya might be the next dragon rider.

Or maybe Eragon and Murtagh's roles are switched?

Maybe it's Eragon and Arya and their dragons, the man on the beach could be Roran after Katrina's death or maybe Sloan, has everyone forgotten about him?

well, it's plain that we can't say for sure who the next rider will be, arya and elva are definitely possible candidates...on another matter, i believe that Glaedr's heart will play a big roll in the fourth book, and that eragon will most likely find an ancient heart vault, similar to that on voengard...
